Allen, "the Antique Capital of Michigan" is located just 5 minutes from the Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville, Michigan. 12 Antique Shops in town, Preston's Antique Gaslight Village (open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), plus several Antique Malls (open every day) just outside of Allen, MI on US-12 (also known as "Antique Alley"). The malls boast over 400 dealers. They feature antique and primitive furniture, memorabilia, collectibles, glassware, pottery, books, toys, pictures, frames, etc. Many shops are open daily from 10-5 pm for your antiquing pleasure. Allen Antique Auctions are traditionally held over Memorial Day, 4th of July Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends.
Silos Fun Park - Driving Range, Arcade, Go-Karts, Bumper Boats, & Miniature Golf is the latest edition of fun things to do in Hillsdale County. Located just 5 minutes from the Munro House B&B, Silo's offers fun for kids of all ages with a lighted driving range open late into the evening, batting cages, 2 go-kart tracks, and 18 holes of miniature golf open seasonally.
The E. O. Grosvenor House Museum is a two-story High Victorian Italianate Mansion located across the street from the Munro House Bed and Breakfast in downtown Jonesville, Michigan. The interior, an excellent example of a living museum of the 1870s, contains thirty-two rooms with twelve-foot ceilings. Other striking features are eight Italian marble fireplaces each of a different color, walnut window valances with carved Egyptian heads, and a sweeping balustrade staircase. The Museum is open on Weekends from 2-5pm between Mothers Day and Labor Day. An elegant Christmas Tour is featured the first 2 weekends in December each year. Grosvenor descendents traditionally host a holiday party featuring snacks and local entertainment. The last week in September is the traditional week for "The Most Popular Fair on Earth" -- the Hillsdale County Fair. George Munro, original owner of the Munro House in Jonesville, Michigan, helped organize the fair in 1850, making it the longest continuously running County Fair in the State of Michigan. The Munro House Bed and Breakfast is "the most comfortable lodging in Hillsdale County" and is located just 10 minutes from the fairgrounds.
Community Theater is "live" and well at the Sauk Theater, just 2 blocks from the Munro House Bed and Breakfast in downtown Jonesville, Michigan. Hillsdale Community Theater puts on several shows every year. Recent productions include "West Side Story", "Grease", "Annie", "Steel Magnolias", "Fiddler on the Roof", and "Footloose". Additional annual productions include a series of 1 Act "Plays in May", "Fall Follies" a musical review, and a local "Talent Showcase". Jonesville Riverfest is held each year in May (3rd weekend in May). Browse the downtown area for food, art, specialty booths, and historic displays. The highlight of the weekend is the annual Duck Derby where rubber duckies float down the river, the first to finish win prizes. There are also legitimate canoe races for various ages and levels of experience. The finish line is just 2 blocks from the Munro House Bed and Breakfast in downtown Jonesville, Michigan.
