Map of Michigan Looks Like a Mitten

Those of us who live in Lower Michigan have become accustomed to show people where we are by pointing to a spot on our right hand.  Our state is shaped like a mitten, so we, Michiganders, carry a map with us at all times.  The folks who live in the Flint-Tri Cities area refer to their portion of the state as “the Thumb” for obvious reasons.

I own the Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville.  Not many people know where Jonesville is–even people who have lived in Michigan all of their lives.  It just happens that Jonesville is located approximately where 2 creases in my palm form an “X”.  When I am out of town, and people ask me where I’m from, I just show them on my personal map and tell them that “X marks the spot”.
