Vets Arrive During 1st Snow

Participating in the international B&Bs for Vets program, the Munro House in Jonesville hosted 7 Military Veteran Families for free on the night before Veterans Day. This program was designed so vets can be in town for morning ceremonies, programs, and dedications in cities and villages around North America. The guests began arriving as the first snow of the season fell.

One of the couples was so appreciative of the free room for vets that they sent a patriotic wreath for all to enjoy. Local veterans were also invited to join us for a reception. Our veterans represented Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf War, and current active duty. All of the vets were sent downtown for dinner at Saucy Dog’s Barbeque or Olivia’s Chop House. Both restaurants have excellent food and are just 2 blocks away.
Veteran’s Day is traditionally honored at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in America. Our vets will have been fed breakfast and will be able to take the short walk to Carl Fast Park where 600+ people are expected to witness the rededicating of the G.A.R. statue. The monument was originally dedicated in 1912 and has been repositioned, relit, and had its foundation redone.

  1. My wife and I are in the picture in this blog and were fortunate to have been able to participate in this event. The snow added to the great experience! The hospitality offered by Lori, Mike and Ozzie was great! They have a wonderful home and treated us grandly! And attending the veterans day ceremony downtown was very nice.
