Hillsdale College and Broad Street Market Team Up for Independence Day Event

Broad Street Market Michigan is teaming up with Hillsdale College to host a special 4th of July event in downtown Hillsdale–a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Featured guest speakers include local government officials and Hillsdale College dignitaries. A pig roast will follow the reading in the new banquet hall in the lower level of Broad Street Market. Tickets are available from local Rotary and Kiwanis Club members.

The itinerary begins with a gathering at 4:00 on the 4th of July in the Market Tavern of the Broad Street Market where appetizers and a cash bar will be offered. The event will move to the banquet room at 5:00 where the Master of Ceremonies will begin the program. The Market proprietor will speak about the event and introduce local politicians. State Senator Bruce Caswell is the first politician who has committed to attend. Then, Hillsdale College President, or a Political Science Professor, will conduct a mini lecture. Finally, each table will read a few sentences of the Declaration of Independence

A pig roast will be served at 5:00 to the adults. Hot dogs and sliders will be available to kids. An oratory
competition featuring college and high school students will follow dinner. Hillsdale College is scheduled to film the entire event and publish it nationwide. This Independence Day celebration is available by pre-purchasing tickets for just $15 per person from Hillsdale Kiwanis or Rotary Club members.

Most local restaurants will be closed on the 4th of July. Out-of-town guests at the Munro House B&B in Jonesville are encouraged to consider reserving this dining option by contacting the proprietors by July 1.
