Cancer Treatment Completed

Celebrations have occurred at Munro House as we mark the end of 5 years of oral chemotherapy drugs We completed Lori Venturini’s breast cancer treatment on 11/01/2012. In 2007, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a radical double mastectomy. During the next months, she endured chemotherapy and radiation treatments before starting the oral drug regimen. The latest tests show no signs of cancer. She has been given the all clear from her doctors. Hopefully, some, or all of the side effects of the drugs will lessen or disappear completely.

Along with putting up with the side effects of the treatments and undergoing several reconstructive surgeries, Lori had personal goals to complete. The main goals were: seeing our son get a Bachelor’s Degree, seeing our son get married, and holding a grandchild. All have been completed. New goals include horseback riding, sewing, reading, painting, and inspiring others to be positive in the face of incredible hardship.

To celebrate enduring the long road to recovery, Lori had a hummingbird tattooed on her shoulder. The hummingbird has become a symbol to rise above trouble and hardship. It also represents someone that loves life and every breath. They also symbolize energy and vigor. The hummingbird can represent the accomplishment of hard work or difficult task. Lori sees all of these attributes in herself and has put this permanent symbol on her body.

People undergoing a similar personal traumatic experience can gain personal strength and support by spending time with positive influences like my wife, Lori.
