“Snitch” stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the parent of a young man who gets mixed up in a drug sting and goes to prison. The only way to get his sentence reduced is to become a snitch against his friends who may also be involved in dealing drugs. He refuses to rat out any of his classmates and ends up doing a 10 year sentence as a first time offender. The father pleads with the local U.S. District Attorney for mercy without success. He then offers up an alternate plan to become an undercover agent to catch the bad guys that will lead to his son’s reduced prison time.
This movie takes place in St. Louis with a drug connection on the Texas/Mexico border. The story is very believable with a construction company owner using his business to cover up the transport of large quantities of drugs. The faltering economy and the tightness of cash flow gives the businessman a legitimate shot at infiltrating the drug cartel.
Inspired by a true story, this is the kind of movie that was popular during the ’90s. We haven’t seen this this style of movie in a while, so it worked. The story was good but very predictable and kind of nostalgic. 3 out of 5 stars.
