Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville Michigan will once again participate in the B&Bs for Vets program. Munro House will be giving away free rooms to active duty soldiers or veterans of any era in a call-in contest format. Rooms will be released at random intervals for this contest via the Munro House Facebook feed. After posting the announcement of a free room, the first caller will get the room at no charge for Sunday, November 11, 2018. A photo of the veteran in uniform and permission to use it for online promotions is required. After breakfast, the veteran and guest are invited to join a free Veterans Day program at the Jonesville Middle School gym, just 3 blocks away. The event begins at 11:00 AM and is traditionally well-attended by students, residents, officials, and business people.
One era of conflict will be remembered as the focus of this annual program in the gym at the Jonesville Middle School. A guest speaker will make a speech about their experience with war. Additionally, students compete by writing a speech under the theme of freedom or patriotism. The winning paper will be read by its author as part of the event. The high school band will play while flag twirlers perform with the color guard on standby. The program was developed and sponsored by the local American Legion Post and has been an annual event for at least 10 years.
To guarantee the free room will be occupied, Munro House will take a $30 credit card deposit. Upon arrival, the veterans will be presented with a $30 gift card for dinner at Saucy Dog’s BBQ in Jonesville. The bed and breakfast will cost them nothing. A free night of lodging and a big breakfast at Munro House is the honorarium to veterans. This is our way of saying thank you to our veterans for their service to our country.

The B&Bs for Vets program was started by a West Virginia innkeeper in 2008, expanded to several state-wide inns in 2009, and has seen participation across the United States and Canada since then. Sometimes, the room is claimed within minutes, sometimes it takes longer. Be the first caller, then get away to Jonesville, have dinner, enjoy breakfast with other veterans, and attend the Veterans Day program. Good luck, and thank you for your service.
